The story
A house we grew up in, and now hope someone else will.
Georgia & Yiannis
We are Georgia and Yiannis, two cousins who grew up together, with a lot of love and affection around us. We spent many days, weeks and months in this house, among the rest of our family.
Unfortunately the older members of the family are gone, and life has its own plans for the rest of us. We can no longer keep the house. It deserves better than a locked door and a garden nobody looks after, and we would like to hand it to people who will fill it again.
It stands in Alonia, a quiet village in the Ario area, in the municipality of Kalamata, in the Peloponnese, Greece, among olive and fruit trees. It is the kind of place where the days go slowly, the evenings are long and the neighbours know each other.
The house was built in 1991 with two floors and two separate homes, so that more than one household could live under the same roof and share the same garden. Each floor has its own kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and a wide veranda, with one bathroom upstairs and two downstairs. Outside, the garden grew up around it: lemons, oranges, figs, roses and a vine-covered pergola where lunch lasts all afternoon.
And there is one more thing we are happy to hand over with it. A short way from the house there is a small plot with a few olive trees, enough to give a family all the olive oil it needs through the year. It is part of the same story, and it comes with the house at no extra cost.
It is all being offered as one property, to a buyer who will keep it as a large family home, share it between relatives or friends, or turn it into a place to welcome guests.
